How Grampian T.V. managed to show 60 minutes highlights of the North of Scotland Cup Final, will remain one of the mysteries of modern times, 60 seconds would have been 50 seconds too many. The only true highlights in what was an all too familiar Caley performance were the continual chants of "Norman Miller You’re a wanker" and "We'll always hate Thistle", that accompanied Frank Gilfeather's inane commentary. Only a true pro could utter the classic line: "Just listen to the Caley fans salute their heroes" as the strains of "You can stick your fucking merger up your arse", bellowed out in the background and the brilliant Police Snatch Squad trying to throw Caley fans out of the ground after the match had finished. To say the Cup final stank is a bit more than an understatement, but in many ways it reflected perfectly what is, or what is left of, Caledonian Football Club.

Saturday May 14th 1994 is going to be a very emotional day for a lot of people, because it will be the day Caledonian Football Club plays its last match. Thankfully however we'll be spared the fake sentimentality, publicity seekers, patronising media attention and big game wankers that a game against Thistle would have brought. At least we'll have the opportunity to see our team die, hopefully with some dignity, in the relative obscurity of Christie Park, Huntly.

For a lot of people however Caley died in the Rose Street Hall, on Wednesday December 2nd last year, the night the so called servants and guardians of the club Miller, Mackenzie, Falconer, etc., conspired with the ego trippers involved in Inverness and Nairn Enterprise and the greed of a few so called local businessmen, to ensure that the vote was rigged sufficiently in their favour. Something that the local press seems to have conveniently forgotten, and apparently forgiven, but something that we will never forgive. They have to live with their conscience knowing that the majority of Caley fans, real Caley fans, in the Rose Street Hall that night voted against taking Thistle over. Buying in hired help to defeat the clubs membership was a despicably low move, even by their own moral-less standards, but forcing players to attend a meeting and vote against the people who travelled thousands of miles supporting them over the years just goes to show how much contempt they hold for Caley, its players and supporters, and proves just how pathetic they really are.

What the majority of Caley piayers did that night, albeit under severe pressure, was a disgrace, they showed no loyalty to, no interest in, and no understanding of, people who have cared deeply about Caley for years. They voted for larger signing-on fees and bigger weekly wages but the most galling thing about their actions is that they voted for something half of them didn't really believe in. Some of the players like Kevin Mann, Wilson Robertson, Mike Andrew and Billy Skinner certainly do not deserve any of the abuse the rest of their treacherous team-mates deserve, and whilst we would never ask them to condone the actions of Caley fans we sincerely hope that they understand the reasoning behind such behaviour.

Finally, one hundred and eight years of Invemess's footballing and tradition has been poured down the drain to satisfy a few men's greed. Yes, their new club may get into the Scottish Premier League, it may even win the European Cup, but it will never be as good as Caledonian Football Club, the one they killed off.SO MR NORMAN MILLER, STICK YOUR FUCKING MERGER UP YOUR ARSE!!!!!
